I picked this picture because it really stuck out to me there is alot of emotion in this picture. The photo has lots of elements to it most of them lie in the mans facial expression. The first element I would like to point out is the soot on the mans face, it destorts what he really looks like. The next element is the cigaret in his moth which would be common in the time of this photo. the next element would be the dark shade on the side of his face, it makes his look like an eary unhuman fugure. Then there is the building in the backround and the clothing the man is wearing.

This man is a mine worker, his daily life consist of living underground, digging into the earth. He is most likely a poor man, that spends most of his day in darkness, underground by day, above by night. I would almost assume his life is hard and depressing. I make my asumption from his deppresed dark pose in the picture. I feel this is what the photographer wanted to capture though.

As for vector, it again is all in his face, the photo was obviosly cropped for this reason. The man is staring closley and straight into the camera, poseing for the photo. The vector of attention I feel is the mans eye's they you feel as if they are staring straight into your eye's. It creates a sad and depressed mood that you cannot get away from. Then another vector I am drawn to is the cigarett in the mans mouth. To me this adds character to the photo, a cigarett is generally smoked by people in stressful situations just like the one this man is in. Another thing to point out would be the mans whole face, it is covered in soot. This makes him look unhuman, he looks like a some kind of monster.

Now I'm drawn to the building in the backround why did the photographer decided to get this in the shot. I think he did this to show where the miners work. The reason the building is so shadded and dark I think is to show the way the miners feel of the place. The daily activites there would be so repeditive and take a toll on your body. Many miners did not live long, especially back in the Great Depression era. This is because they did not know about the dangerous particels tthey were breathing in. This photo in essence is of pure deppresion and darkness exactly what the Great Depression was like when this photo was taken.
