Comic 2

To the left shows a picture of a live penguin and its parent in their natural habitat. Looking at this picture you can see the penguin is a bird but not an ordinary bird. It has a white belly and a black back and side. The penguin’s wings are flippers. In my comic strip that shows two penguins they resemble what a penguin should look like but the author added human characteristics and unnatural colors. I did some research on penguins and they are derived from mainly Antarctica and the southern hemisphere. They feed on krill, fish, squid, and other sea life. They are a flightless bird that spends half of its life on land and the other half in the water. The penguin does not always live so far south as everyone assumes, these birds actually live as close to the equator as the Galapagos islands. The bird also varies in size from small to large.

Now as for the possible landscape I would assume the author meant for it to be Antarctica. Antarctica the furthest southern continent and is covered with ice, nearly 98% of it. The continent is the coldest, driest, and has the most wind of any continent; it also is the most elevated.
Now knowing all of this information the way I perceive this comic is slightly different. I now know where this comic takes place and some history of the penguin and its habitat. Instead of thinking the scene was located in the north pole I now know it’s true location. The author did a good job in getting the background of the comic to match the look of real Antarctic scenery. He shows just glaciers in the distance and bare tundra, he did not add anything else as to distract the reader of where the humor is. The penguins are slightly altered than what they would naturally look like, granted this is a cartoon comic. The penguins color does not match that of a true penguin, the penguins also have human cloths and facial expressions.
I think the author used penguins because they are a non violent animal to human and people refer to them as cute. The penguin is almost an icon of cuteness, there are many stuffed animals and other penguin accessories. The author new this and used the penguins as a medium to create a happy and funny comic that would appeal to children and anyone else. The center of which this comic’s humor derives is from an unknown furry ball. This is the punch line of the comic; it is just there smiling not moving. The author plays of the colorful human like penguins and the furry ball to make the comic what it is. The rhetorical appeal of this comic is to make you laugh and wonder, if the blue ball is actually siting or not.

Comic post 1

During my search for a comic I came across this comic because its humor stuck out to me. The comic displays a comic strip of two penguins dressed like humans standing next to a blue furry ball with a face. The blue ball is the penguins pet and the penguin is trying to show his other penguin friend that the pet can sit. He asks his pet to sit but it does not move and the friend asks if the pet has sat, he responds saying "I have no idea."

This comic to me is to appeal to children and people with a sense of humor. The comic is very bright and the characters in the panels do not move much. The humor of the comic lies in this though. The transition from strip to strip is simple but it’s what creates the argument of humor. The blue pet does not have any legs and does not move at all through the comic. The penguin wants him to sit but you cannot tell if he is or not because he has no legs. This simple question and transition makes the ethos. There is also ethos in the penguin’s facial expressions and arm movements. The penguins express their feelings about the pet with their faces of confusion. So much emphasis is put on the penguins face because the background and they do not move throughout the whole strip.

The comic also makes its ethos through the using of nonhuman characters to create the humor of the comic. If this comic did not use penguins and used humans it would change the appeal of the comic along with the ethos. The penguins make this comic more childish and less serious, using the penguins draws in a younger crowd. The bright colors also make this a more interesting comic. The comic is to be simple and to the point, that is why the words and humor in the comic is so simple and straight forward. The author of the comic made it to be a quick laugh for the reader. The comic also uses the traditional comic format to show the transitions across the comic. This is the simple basic format that was first used in comics which fits along with this simple comic.

The typography this comic produces is an unsophisticated feel; it uses simple text and basic transitions. The comic has easy readability that basically any age will enjoy, or anyone with a sense of humor. The comic is very quick from beginning to end it should take you no longer than 10 seconds to read and understand its meaning.
