The video "Killing in the Name of" is not a very complex video it is a performance by the band in an auditorium. The video starts of with the band on stage then 30 seconds in you see papers thrown in the air. Throughout the video they switch camera views from the band to the audience. I think the band use the strategy of using the live performance to convey the emotion of the audiance. The papers thrown in the air I feel represent possibly government documents. When I think of this scene it makes me think of movies or posters of people throwing their papers or documents in the air. It represents cutting lose and forgetting their worries to the corperate world. this I feel is a visual hierarchie it stands above every thing else in the video. Another scene I want to talk about that I feel is a visual hierarchie is towards the end of the video. A woman climbs on stage just to jump off into the crowd were she is cought by the crowd. This I feel represents the people and how they work together helping each other acting as one. The crowd comes together and everyone helps out to catch this person they most likely have never meet. They picked to keep this scene I feel to show the comradory of man, that united we are strong. Everyone knows this bands political views and everything they do comes back to being political. They create arguement through this video with the live emotion from the band and the crowd. The camera often does close ups on the lead singers face to show his emotion while singing.

In the context of their lyrics they have one central arguement and build upon it with the live emotion of the video. The video uses lighting and color to build on their arguement, the whole video is dark. This creates a mood an unpleasent angry feeling, there is anger throughout the whole video. The color ties everything together in the video the emotion, the look, even the argument.

I picked this video because it has alot of character and emotion, this group is very political, almost all their music is anti-government. I might not agree with all their statments but I like the group for the fact that their music has a cause. To them it is to change the feelings of people and let them know their government is not what they think. This Rage Against the Machine video has alot of communication through ethos. The group decided to perform live on stage for there video this shows their true emotions about their music. They use alot of body language in the video hopping around stage showing their anger in the actions they potray on stage. They also have much ethos in the songs lyrics, it sends out an angry message. It also sends out a message of reform, they wish to change the government through music.

These performers use a great amount of emotion in their song you can almost feel the anger through their movements on stage. This usage of pathos draws the audiance into the song and convey's their message. "Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, theyre the chosen whites" this lyric has much emotion. It speaks of death and race, that people can have justifed deaths. That there are chosen whites that are there to die for a reason, one that they feel is not correct. This band uses much sarcasm which is easy to understand if you know the bands political views.

In terms of logos there is not much structure to the argument they are trying to convey. They repeat their lyrics many times "And now you do what they told ya " and "Some of those that were forces are the same that bore crosses" these two lyrics are refered to many times. The lyrics build off each other into the argument that the goverment is killing the people. That we need to stand up and stop this killing.
